Playful Presentations

Geared toward children, these presentations explore the what, why, where, and how of being an artist and author. Maya loves to share her three very important rules:

  1. Everyone is an artist.
  2. There is never a right or wrong way to make art.
  3. Art is always an act of courage!

And she never misses a chance to let kids know how valuable it is for us to see ourselves reflected in our books, all of us. Often times she’ll talk about the process of making a book, from sketches to final print, and lets kids in on the “secrets” hidden in her books that delight them every time!

The kids just love to touch and feel the history it holds. If time allows, she may lead the children in a small art project to round out the presentation. Working with kids is one of Maya’s favorite parts of being an artist and from the millions of smiling faces we’ve seen, the kids enjoy playing with her as well! A memorable experience for everyone!

These presentations are easy to gear for any age, but are mostly done for children in grade school. They can also be adapted for library programs, families or community centers.

While smaller class sizes allow a more intimate setting, these presentations have sometimes grown to be as big as 600 kids at a time. A presentation length of 45-60 minutes is usually the ideal in order to accommodate the attention spans of children. However, Maya can put on up to three presentations a day. Time can also be arranged for a booksigning after the presentation.

Ultimately, these presentations can be adapted to the needs and desires of the students and school at the time of scheduling. Please contact us and tell us about your ideas and we’ll see what we can create together.
