We did it! Thanks to the awesome support from our friends and community, Reflection Press turns 1 this month! Listen to Maya read I Know the River Loves Me on the SF Public Library Children’s Storyline
The San Francisco Public library has partnered with Children’s Book Press to promote Hispanic Heritage Month and the Children’s Storyline. Children’s Book Press generously granted the library permission to record I Know The River Loves Me: Yo sé río me ama by Maya Christina Gonzalez in four languages. Maya recorded the English language version for their growing Storyline library.

We began the Fall with the Gender Spectrum Conference that took place throughout Labor Day weekend. We had jumped on presenting at this conference as soon as we heard it was going to be here in Berkeley. Since we had spent the spring and summer deeply focused on creating our Gender Now Coloring Book, when we finished, we were very eager to join in community with others who were supporting our children in multi-gender expression. In just a few years, the conference has grown from 30 attendees to a couple of hundred. There were numerous presentations, some covering the medical, legal and social aspects, others supportive and insightful.
In my presentation I focused on being aware of the multi-gender expression all around us, how to see it and talk about it with all of our children, not just transgender children. On These Shoulders We Stand
Wow! Maya and I went to a free movie screening at the LGBT center in San Francisco yesterday for an absolutely awesome documentary called On These Shoulders We Stand. Lots of people know about Stonewall and Harvey Milk, but this film focused on the movement for LGBT equal rights that was growing in Los Angeles even before Stonewall. The film focused on 11 people who discussed their experiences during that time. It was amazing to hear not just about the discrimination, violence, and stress of the time, especially at the hands of police, but also about the incredible resilience, determination and undying pride that all of them possessed in overcoming such extreme and often what seemed liked hopeless situations. They truly are the people on whose shoulders we stand! They paved the way for others just by refusing to accept that they could not be themselves and love who they loved.
